The Silent Years, by Simon Webster and Richard Sargent
A Day in the Life of a Medieval Novice Monk.
Here are a selection of screen captures showing images from the 1995 and 2006 versions of The Silent Years side by side. Notice that the original 1995 film had a black border laid over it prior to VHS duplication, which was put there to cover up unsightly edges that had been unwittingly recorded beyond the vision of the animation camera. For the Special Edition we went back to an earlier generation Betacam copy, taken off the master U-matic tape, which did not have the border. That meant we had to re-frame a lot of the shots, where the unwanted edges were visible, to produce the new DVD master. Each shot went through individual grading to match up with the surrounding shots as best as possible. |
