Reg 2: The Lights of Fylingdales |
By Richard Sargent
The Lights of Fylingdales was the second comic book in the Reg trilogy, produced by Richard in 1995 during his final year on the Graphic Arts & Design course at Leeds Metropolitan University, concurrent with filming on The Silent Years.
Richard: "The Lights of Fylingdales was an experiment for me. Up until then I had only ever drawn comics in black pen on white paper. For this story I worked on tracing paper, using its transparency to give a grey mid-tone background. With black and white paint applied on the reverse of the paper I could create several tones. It was a lot of delicate work, and the end result can be achieved much more easily nowadays on a computer, but looking back it's my favourite out of all the comics I did."
The story sees the characters of Reg and John McGeary from Reg vs The Moon Zombies return for another adventure, this time at RAF Fylingdales early warning station in North Yorkshire. Two characters from Richard's Dale/Aled comic series, Barbara Kendal and Major Wild, also make guest appearances.
