The heartwarming encounter between Alyssa Hacker, her son Owen, and a kind stranger at Target serves as a powerful reminder of the innate goodness and compassion that exist within humanity, even amidst the challenges of the world we live in.

As Alyssa recounts her experience, it’s evident that her initial apprehension quickly melted away as she witnessed the genuine connection between Owen and the older gentleman. Despite the uncertainties and anxieties that often accompany interactions with strangers, Alyssa’s faith in humanity was restored as she observed the genuine kindness and warmth exchanged between the man and her son.

The simple act of the man engaging with Owen, playing dinosaurs with him, and ultimately gifting him with a $20 bill speaks volumes about the depth of his empathy and compassion. In a world where skepticism and fear often dominate our interactions, his selfless gesture stands as a beacon of hope and humanity.

The profound significance of the encounter becomes even more poignant as Alyssa learns of the man’s heartbreaking loss – the passing of his 2-year-old grandson just the week before. Despite carrying the weight of his own grief, the man’s capacity for empathy and generosity shines through as he extends his love and kindness to Owen, a stranger he crossed paths with in a Target store.

The act of slipping the $20 bill into Owen’s pocket, accompanied by words of comfort and reassurance, reflects the depth of the man’s empathy and his desire to bring joy and comfort to a young child’s life, even amidst his own pain and sorrow.

As the man walks away, leaving Alyssa and Owen with tears of gratitude and awe, his parting words, “Boomer Sooner,” serve as a poignant reminder of the connections that transcend the boundaries of strangers, uniting individuals in shared moments of compassion and humanity.

Alyssa’s emotional response to the encounter – tears shed in the middle of Target – encapsulates the profound impact of acts of kindness and compassion, serving as a testament to the enduring power of human connection and empathy.

In a world often overshadowed by darkness and uncertainty, the story of Owen and the kind stranger serves as a powerful testament to the enduring capacity for love, empathy, and compassion that resides within each of us. It is a reminder that even in the face of adversity, there is still goodness to be found, and moments of connection and kindness have the power to illuminate even the darkest of days.

  1. I was walking my dog Christmas morning when a girl about 8 yrs. old was crying to her friend that she hadn’t gotten any presents for Christmas.. The mother with a cigarette in her fingers came out, told her it was just another lousy day and to get into the house. To say the least, it’s broke my heart. I returned home, proceeded to sew a stuffed animal, put a big red bow around the dog’s neck, and went back to her house. Her friend had told me her name. I wrote a quick note saying how’s this toy had been in his sleigh and was sorry it was late. Merry Christmas. I think of her occasionally and hope she remembers.
